Thing 1: Blondey McCoy’s handwriting, shown at the end of a Thrasher video. A perfect hybrid of cursive & print.
Thing 2: The volcano battle backgrounds from a Pokemon romhack I’m playing. I love the ribbons of yellow & gold on the horizon, and how natural the globs of lava look.
Thing 3: David Hockney’s backdrops and sketches for a 1977 production of The Magic Flute. I learned about him and this project in a 1979 issue of the New Yorker. Instant fan.
